On Thursday, 27/3/2025, the Nanotechnology and Advanced Materials Research Center held a workshop entitled (Engineering Examinations of Steel Sections in Bridges and Structures) in which the two engineers lectured:
– Muhammad Haidar Abd Ali
– Zeina Abbas Ali
In the presence of a number of the center‘s staff and other university departments.
The workshop began by introducing the attendees to the most important engineering examinations of both types (non–destructive such as ultrasound, X–rays) and (destructive such as tensile, bending, hardness test), through which defects in the iron sections of bridges and structures can be detected, and the subject of corrosion was also addressed as one of the main factors that lead to the deterioration of steel structures, with a review of the most important methods used to protect against it, such as protective coatings.
The workshop also included scientific discussions and answering all questions posed by the attendees.
The workshop also recommended the need to adhere to inspection and maintenance procedures as an essential step to ensure the safety of steel structures and extend their lifespan.
